Turtles in IUCN RED LIST


SAVE the turtles. They may no longer be around in future.

There are 7 species of turtles distributed around the world. Out of the seven species, six are already threatened or critically endangered as listed in IUCN red list taken from the current ENDANGERED SPECIES RESEARCH : ‘The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species: Assessing Its Utility and Value’ (Godfrey and Godley, 2008).


Hawksbill turtle

Status : Critically Endangered

Flatback turtle
Natator depressus
Status : Data Deficient

Olive ridley turtle
Lepidochelys olivacea
Status : Endangered [a]

Green turtle
Chelonia mydas
Status : Endangered [b]

Loggerhead turtle
Caretta caretta
Status : Endangered [a]

Kemp's ridley turtles
Lepidochelys kempii
Status : Critically Endangered [c]

Leatherback turtle
Dermochelys coriacea
Status : Critically Endangered [c]
